grovio Homeschool App Privacy Policy
Grow Simply. Homeschool Confidently.
Last updated: September 11, 2026
Introduction
grovio is a homeschool companion app designed to help families track attendance, plan their daily rhythm, build a learning portfolio, and connect in invitation-based homeschool Communities. The grovio Guide is a free educational library on this website. grovio is operated as a United States-based application.
This privacy policy explains what information grovio collects, how that information is used, and what choices you have. It is written in plain English on purpose — you should not need a law degree to understand how your data is handled. If anything in this policy is unclear, please reach out at hello@grovioapp.com.
This policy applies to the grovio website (hosted at grovioapp.com), the grovio iOS application, and the grovio Android application. By creating an account or using the app, you agree to the practices described below.
Information We Collect
grovio collects only the information needed to provide you with a useful homeschool companion. There are two ways you can use grovio, and the data collected depends on which you choose.
Without an account: You can use grovio without creating an account. In this case, all data you enter — including any learner information, planner entries, or attendance records — stays on your device only. grovio does not transmit or store this data on any server.
With an account: When you create an account, grovio collects your name, email address, and an account identifier for authentication and account management. Once signed in, you may also enter learner names and basic details (such as age or grade level); attendance records; portfolio entries including photos, notes, and descriptions; planner and rhythm data; preferences; and settings. Premium homeschool information is stored on our servers so it can sync across your devices.
Community: Community requires an account, but it does not require a paid Premium subscription. If you create or join a private Community, grovio stores your Community profile, group memberships, announcements, events, selected event addresses and registration links, RSVPs, chat messages, reactions, reports, blocked-member choices, notification preferences, and any photos you choose to upload. Your display name, profile photo, posts, messages, reactions, RSVPs, and event contributions may be visible to other members of that private Community as the feature indicates. Email addresses remain private and are not displayed to other members.
Place search: When you type a location while creating or editing a Community event, the search text is sent to Geoapify so the app can suggest matching places. grovio does not request your device's GPS location. The place you select may be saved with the event and shown to members of that Community.
Usage and device information: grovio and its service providers process standard logs such as IP address, device type, operating system, app version, request timestamps, app interactions, and device identifiers. We use this information to operate and secure the Service, diagnose problems, understand feature use, deliver notifications, and measure which marketing campaigns lead to installs or subscriptions. grovio does not use homeschool or Community content to build advertising profiles.
Website measurement: With your permission, our public website uses Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, and Pinterest Tag. Selected campaign pages may also use OpenAI's conversion measurement SDK. These services may receive browser and device information, IP-derived information, pages visited, referring URLs, and campaign parameters so we can understand website performance and measure advertising. We do not send your in-app learner records, portfolio photos, private messages, or account content to these website measurement services.
Website Privacy Choices
Essential browser storage remembers your privacy choice and keeps the website working. It does not turn on advertising or website analytics.
Optional analytics help us understand which pages and resources are useful. Optional marketing measurement helps us evaluate advertising and campaign performance. We do not load these tools unless you choose to allow them.
You can select “Use essential only,” choose individual categories, or allow optional cookies when the privacy notice appears. Use the “Privacy choices” button in the footer at any time to change your decision. Changing your decision stops optional tools on future page loads; it does not erase information they received before you changed the setting.
Product analytics: grovio uses PostHog for limited product analytics. PostHog is configured for manual, non-PII event tracking only; autocapture, session recording, heatmaps, and performance capture are disabled.
How We Use Your Information
grovio uses the information you provide to authenticate and secure your account; sync Premium homeschool records; operate private Communities; deliver the notifications you enable; generate portfolio sharing links; provide optional AI-powered summaries; support subscriptions; measure campaign effectiveness; and maintain, troubleshoot, and improve the app.
grovio does not sell your personal data. There are no third-party ads in the app, and we do not use learner records, portfolio content, private messages, or other Community content for ad targeting. Website measurement helps us understand website visits and advertising performance without exposing private app records. AppsFlyer may process app interactions and device or advertising identifiers, where permitted by your device settings, to attribute installs and subscription outcomes to marketing campaigns.
AI-Powered Features
grovio offers an optional feature that generates a brief summary of your week's learning activity using artificial intelligence (Anthropic's Claude model). The first time you invoke this feature, an in-app consent notice asks you to confirm before any data is sent. You can decline and continue using the rest of the app normally.
What is sent. When you generate (or auto-generate, in the Friday Wrap-Up flow) a weekly summary, the titles, descriptions, and subject tags of your portfolio moments from that week are sent to Anthropic, PBC for processing. What is not sent: photos, dates, learner profiles, account email, authentication tokens, and any other account data are never included in the request.
About the text content. The titles and descriptions you write are user-authored free text and may contain your child's first name if you chose to write it there. The AI is instructed to refer to the child as "my child" or "they" in the generated summary rather than echoing the name back, but the inputs themselves may contain it. If you prefer to keep names entirely out of AI processing, you can either omit names from your moment text, or decline the AI feature when prompted.
Anthropic's handling. Anthropic processes inputs in accordance with their API Commercial Terms and Privacy Policy. grovio operates under Anthropic's commercial API, which by default does not retain inputs for model training. Inputs are not sold or used for advertising.
This feature is opt-in via the in-app consent disclosure. If you decline, no portfolio data is sent to Anthropic.
Children's Privacy
grovio is designed for adults, including parents, guardians, and adult Community organizers or members. It is not directed to children, and children should not create accounts or use the Service directly. Adults may choose to enter information about learners or share information about children inside a private Community. The adult who submits that information is responsible for having the authority and any consent needed to do so.
grovio does not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13. Parents and guardians control the learner information they add and may edit or delete it through the app or request account deletion. If you believe a child has provided personal information directly to grovio, please contact hello@grovioapp.com.
Data Storage and Security
When you create an account or use Community, your account and cloud data are stored through Supabase, including uploaded portfolio and Community photos. The grovio website and web application are hosted on Vercel. Service providers may process data in the United States and other locations where they operate.
All data transmitted between your device and grovio's servers is encrypted in transit using HTTPS/TLS. Data stored in Supabase is encrypted at rest. grovio uses Sign in with Apple (on iOS) or Sign in with Google (on Android) for authentication — a fast, secure one-tap experience. No password is ever created or stored.
While grovio takes reasonable measures to protect your information, no system connected to the internet can guarantee absolute security. If you ever believe your account has been compromised, please contact hello@grovioapp.com immediately.
If you downgrade from Premium, your private homeschool cloud data is removed in accordance with the retention period shown in the app, while free Community data needed to keep your membership functioning may remain until you delete your account or leave the Community. Locally stored homeschool data remains under your control on the device. Account deletion removes associated cloud data subject to limited retention required for security, legal obligations, fraud prevention, backup rotation, or resolving reports.
Data Sharing
grovio does not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. There are no third-party ads in the app. We share limited information with service providers only as needed to operate the Service, support purchases and notifications, improve the product, or measure website and mobile marketing performance.
grovio relies on a small number of third-party service providers to operate the app. These providers have access to your data only to the extent necessary to provide their services:
- Supabase — authentication, database, and file storage (supabase.com/privacy)
- Vercel — web application hosting (vercel.com/legal/privacy-policy)
- Apple — iOS app distribution and Sign in with Apple (apple.com/legal/privacy)
- Google — Android app distribution, Sign in with Google, and Google Play Billing (policies.google.com/privacy)
- Google Analytics — website analytics and measurement (policies.google.com/privacy)
- Meta — website advertising measurement through Meta Pixel (facebook.com/privacy/policy)
- Pinterest — website advertising measurement through Pinterest Tag (policy.pinterest.com/privacy-policy)
- OpenAI — conversion measurement on selected website campaign pages (openai.com/policies/privacy-policy)

- RevenueCat — subscription and in-app purchase management (revenuecat.com/privacy)
- AppsFlyer — mobile attribution and campaign measurement, including app interactions and device identifiers where permitted (appsflyer.com/legal/privacy-policy)
- Firebase Cloud Messaging and Apple Push Notification service — delivery of optional device notifications and app badges (policies.google.com/privacy) and (apple.com/legal/privacy)
- Geoapify — place suggestions based on event-location text you type; grovio does not send device GPS coordinates (geoapify.com/privacy-policy)
- Kit (formerly ConvertKit) — email marketing and subscriber management, used to send product updates and onboarding emails to users who sign up (kit.com/privacy)
- PostHog — product analytics used to understand how users interact with the app so we can improve the product experience. Only anonymous usage events are sent (such as feature interactions and conversion actions). No personally identifiable information is sent to PostHog, and autocapture is disabled. (posthog.com/privacy)
grovio may also disclose your information if required to do so by law, such as in response to a valid subpoena, court order, or government request.
Private Communities and Moderation
Community spaces are invitation-based, but no online space can be guaranteed completely private. Group owners and admins can manage membership, review reports, and remove content under the Community guidelines. grovio may also review reported content and related account or technical information when reasonably necessary to investigate safety, abuse, fraud, or violations of our Terms.
Blocking a member limits your interaction with that person but may not remove content that must remain visible to group owners or admins for moderation. Notifications never include private message text in their preview.
Portfolio Sharing Links
grovio allows you to create shareable links to portfolio entries so you can show your learner's work to family members, evaluators, or others you choose. This feature is entirely opt-in — no portfolio content is publicly accessible unless you specifically generate a sharing link.
When you create a sharing link, anyone who has that link can view the shared portfolio content. You are responsible for deciding who you share these links with. You can deactivate any sharing link at any time directly within the app — once deactivated, the link will no longer display portfolio content to anyone who opens it.
Your Rights and Data Deletion
You have the right to access, correct, or delete the personal information grovio holds about you. Within the app, you can edit your profile, homeschool information, Community contributions, and preferences where those controls are available.
You can request deletion of your account and associated data directly from within the app through Settings → Delete Account, at grovioapp.com/delete-account, or by emailing hello@grovioapp.com. We process verified email requests within 30 days. Some Community records may be retained in a de-identified form or for a limited period when necessary to preserve group integrity, investigate reports, prevent abuse, comply with law, or complete backup rotation.
If you are located in a jurisdiction that grants additional privacy rights — such as rights under the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) or the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) — please contact hello@grovioapp.com and grovio will make a good-faith effort to honor your request.
Changes to This Policy
grovio may update this privacy policy from time to time to reflect changes in the app, legal requirements, or business practices. When changes are made, the "Last updated" date at the top of this policy will be revised. If a change is material, grovio will make reasonable efforts to notify you through an in-app notice or email.
Your continued use of grovio after any changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
