Grovio Homeschool App Privacy Policy
Grow Simply. Homeschool Confidently.
Last updated: May 2026
Introduction
grovio is a homeschool companion app designed to help families track attendance, plan their daily rhythm, build a learning portfolio, and access educational articles through the grovio Guide. grovio is operated as a United States-based application.
This privacy policy explains what information grovio collects, how that information is used, and what choices you have. It is written in plain English on purpose — you should not need a law degree to understand how your data is handled. If anything in this policy is unclear, please reach out at hello@grovioapp.com.
This policy applies to the grovio web application (hosted at grovioapp.com), the grovio iOS application, and the grovio Android application. By creating an account or using the app, you agree to the practices described below.
Information We Collect
grovio collects only the information needed to provide you with a useful homeschool companion. There are two ways you can use grovio, and the data collected depends on which you choose.
Without an account: You can use grovio without creating an account. In this case, all data you enter — including any learner information, planner entries, or attendance records — stays on your device only. grovio does not transmit or store this data on any server.
With an account: When you create an account, grovio collects your email address for authentication purposes. Once signed in, you may also enter the following information, all of which is stored on our servers: learner names and basic details (such as age or grade level) as entered by you; attendance records including dates marked as school days, sick days, and field trips; portfolio entries including photos, notes, and descriptions of your learner's work; planner and rhythm data including subjects, schedules, and daily routines; and any preferences or settings you configure within the app.
grovio also collects basic app usage data through its hosting and database infrastructure. This includes standard server logs such as IP addresses, browser or device type, and timestamps of requests. This data is used solely for maintaining and improving the app's performance and is not used for advertising, profiling, or behavioral tracking of any kind.
How We Use Your Information
grovio uses the information you provide for a short list of straightforward purposes: to authenticate your account and keep it secure via Sign in with Apple (on iOS) or Sign in with Google (on Android); to store and display your attendance records, planner data, portfolio entries, and learner information so you can access them across sessions and devices; to generate and display portfolio sharing links when you choose to create them; to generate optional AI-powered weekly summaries of your learning activity when you request them; and to maintain, troubleshoot, and improve the grovio app.
grovio does not use your information for advertising. grovio does not sell your personal data to any third party. grovio does not build behavioral profiles or use your data for any purpose beyond operating the app as described in this policy.
AI-Powered Features
grovio offers an optional feature that generates a brief summary of your week's learning activity using artificial intelligence (Anthropic's Claude model). The first time you invoke this feature, an in-app consent notice asks you to confirm before any data is sent. You can decline and continue using the rest of the app normally.
What is sent. When you generate (or auto-generate, in the Friday Wrap-Up flow) a weekly summary, the titles, descriptions, and subject tags of your portfolio moments from that week are sent to Anthropic, PBC for processing. What is not sent: photos, dates, learner profiles, account email, authentication tokens, and any other account data are never included in the request.
About the text content. The titles and descriptions you write are user-authored free text and may contain your child's first name if you chose to write it there. The AI is instructed to refer to the child as "my child" or "they" in the generated summary rather than echoing the name back, but the inputs themselves may contain it. If you prefer to keep names entirely out of AI processing, you can either omit names from your moment text, or decline the AI feature when prompted.
Anthropic's handling. Anthropic processes inputs in accordance with their API Commercial Terms and Privacy Policy. grovio operates under Anthropic's commercial API, which by default does not retain inputs for model training. Inputs are not sold or used for advertising.
This feature is opt-in via the in-app consent disclosure. If you decline, no portfolio data is sent to Anthropic.
Children's Privacy
grovio is designed for use by parents and guardians — not by children. The app is directed at adults who are managing their family's homeschool experience. While the app stores information about learners (such as names and portfolio entries), all of this information is entered and managed by a parent or guardian. grovio does not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under the age of 13.
Because the app is parent-directed, grovio does not require verifiable parental consent under the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) for the information parents choose to enter about their children. Parents maintain full control over what learner information they add and can request deletion of any or all of this data at any time.
Data Storage and Security
When you create an account, your data is stored in Supabase, a cloud database platform with servers located in the United States. Photos and portfolio content are stored as part of your portfolio data in our database. The grovio web application is hosted on Vercel, also based in the United States.
All data transmitted between your device and grovio's servers is encrypted in transit using HTTPS/TLS. Data stored in Supabase is encrypted at rest. grovio uses Sign in with Apple (on iOS) or Sign in with Google (on Android) for authentication — a fast, secure one-tap experience. No password is ever created or stored.
While grovio takes reasonable measures to protect your information, no system connected to the internet can guarantee absolute security. If you ever believe your account has been compromised, please contact hello@grovioapp.com immediately.
If you downgrade from a paid plan to the free tier, or if you delete your account, your cloud data is removed within 90 days. Locally stored data on your device is unaffected by downgrade and remains under your control on the device.
Data Sharing
grovio does not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. grovio does not share your data with advertising partners because grovio has no advertising partners. There are no ads in the app and there never will be.
grovio relies on a small number of third-party service providers to operate the app. These providers have access to your data only to the extent necessary to provide their services:
- Supabase — authentication, database, and file storage (supabase.com/privacy)
- Vercel — web application hosting (vercel.com/legal/privacy-policy)
- Apple — iOS app distribution and Sign in with Apple (apple.com/legal/privacy)
- Google — Android app distribution, Sign in with Google, and Google Play Billing (policies.google.com/privacy)
- Anthropic, PBC — AI model used for optional weekly summaries only (anthropic.com/privacy)
- RevenueCat — subscription and in-app purchase management (revenuecat.com/privacy)
- Kit (formerly ConvertKit) — email marketing and subscriber management, used to send product updates and onboarding emails to users who sign up (kit.com/privacy)
- PostHog — product analytics used to understand how users interact with the app so we can improve the product experience. Only anonymous usage events are sent (such as feature interactions and conversion actions). No personally identifiable information is sent to PostHog, and autocapture is disabled. (posthog.com/privacy)
grovio may also disclose your information if required to do so by law, such as in response to a valid subpoena, court order, or government request.
Portfolio Sharing Links
grovio allows you to create shareable links to portfolio entries so you can show your learner's work to family members, evaluators, or others you choose. This feature is entirely opt-in — no portfolio content is publicly accessible unless you specifically generate a sharing link.
When you create a sharing link, anyone who has that link can view the shared portfolio content. You are responsible for deciding who you share these links with. You can deactivate any sharing link at any time directly within the app — once deactivated, the link will no longer display portfolio content to anyone who opens it.
Your Rights and Data Deletion
You have the right to access, correct, or delete the personal information grovio holds about you. Within the app, you can view and edit your learner information, attendance records, planner data, and portfolio entries at any time.
You can delete your account and all associated data directly from within the app: open Settings → Delete Account and confirm. The deletion runs server-side and immediately removes your account, learner profiles, attendance records, planner data, weekly reflections, portfolio entries (including the photo files in our storage bucket), and any active sharing links. If you'd prefer to delete by email, you can also write to hello@grovioapp.com and grovio will process the request within 30 days.
If you are located in a jurisdiction that grants additional privacy rights — such as rights under the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) or the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) — please contact hello@grovioapp.com and grovio will make a good-faith effort to honor your request.
Changes to This Policy
grovio may update this privacy policy from time to time to reflect changes in the app, legal requirements, or business practices. When changes are made, the "Last updated" date at the top of this policy will be revised. If a change is material, grovio will make reasonable efforts to notify you through an in-app notice or email.
Your continued use of grovio after any changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
